PlayStyles are the special abilities on top of your Pro’s attributes: the curl on a Finesse Shot, the extra burst from Quick Step, the reach on an interception. In EA FC 27 Clubs they work differently from FC 26, with one Signature PlayStyle per archetype and a handful of regular slots you fill by hitting attribute targets. This guide covers all of it, plus what EA toned down for FC 27 and which PlayStyles we’d pick for each position.
What are PlayStyles in FC 27 Clubs?
EA describes a PlayStyle as a trait that “grants or enhances specific abilities on the pitch beyond a Player’s ratings or attributes”. They switch on by themselves: if your Pro has Finesse Shot and you take a finesse shot, it applies. You don’t press anything extra.
Your Pro gets PlayStyles in three ways:
- The Signature PlayStyle comes with the archetype. You don’t spend anything on it.
- Regular PlayStyles unlock when you meet their attribute requirements, and you equip them in your free slots.
- Amps can add a PlayStyle for a limited number of matches. Tier 3 Signature Amps give PlayStyles, and EA said that at launch no Amp gives a PlayStyle+. Our Amps and consumables guide explains how they work.
EA’s FC 27 PlayStyles page lists six groups: Finishing, Passing, Ball Control, Defending, Physical and Goalkeeper. The six Goalkeeper PlayStyles are for the Shot Stopper and Sweeper Keeper only.
Signature PlayStyle for every archetype
This is the PlayStyle each archetype starts with, what EA says it does, and the three PlayStyle+ options its Specializations can put in the same slot.
| Archetype | Signature PlayStyle | What it does (EA) | Specialization PlayStyle+ options |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goalkeepers | |||
| Shot Stopper | Far Reach | Long diving animations, better chance of saving long shots | Cross Claimer+, Deflector+, 1v1 Close Down+ |
| Sweeper Keeper | Footwork | Foot-save animations, better against low shots | Far Throw+, Long Ball Pass+, Press Proven+ |
| Defenders | |||
| Progressor | Long Ball Pass | Lobbed and lofted through passes are more accurate, faster and harder to intercept | Jockey+, Pinged Pass+, Quick Step+ |
| Boss | Bruiser | More strength in physical tackles | Slide Tackle+, Press Proven+, Block+ |
| Marauder | Quick Step | Faster acceleration during Explosive Sprint | Rapid+, Slide Tackle+, Bruiser+ |
| Midfielders | |||
| Disruptor | Jockey | Faster Sprint Jockey and quicker switch from jockey to sprint | Slide Tackle+, Intercept+, Bruiser+ |
| Recycler | Intercept | More reach and better chance of keeping the ball on interceptions | Anticipate+, Pinged Pass+, Enforcer+ |
| Maestro | Pinged Pass | Faster ground passes that aren’t harder to control | Relentless+, First Touch+, Technical+ |
| Creator | Incisive Pass | More accurate through balls, more curve on swerve passes | Whipped Pass+, Dead Ball+, Power Shot+ |
| Forwards | |||
| Spark | Trickster | Unlocks extra flick skill moves | Whipped Pass+, Chip Shot+, Quick Step+ |
| Magician | Technical | Faster Controlled Sprint, more precise wide turns | First Touch+, Incisive Pass+, Power Shot+ |
| Finisher | Low Driven Shot | More accurate low driven shots, quicker to execute | Relentless+, Chip Shot+, Gamechanger+ |
| Target | Precision Header | More accurate and powerful headers | Acrobatic+, Incisive Pass+, Enforcer+ |
In FC 26 archetypes had more than one Signature PlayStyle. In FC 27 it’s one, so a PlayStyle that used to come free (Finesse Shot on the Magician, First Touch on the Finisher) now costs you a regular slot. Searching for “Magician PlayStyles”? Technical is the signature, and our best Magician build adds First Touch, Finesse Shot and Rapid.
PlayStyle vs PlayStyle+
A regular PlayStyle has a silver badge, a PlayStyle+ a gold one. EA puts it simply: a PlayStyle “slightly improves a certain area of play, and a PlayStyle+ furthers that improvement”. Two of EA’s own examples:
- Pinged Pass makes ground passes travel faster; Pinged Pass+ makes them travel much faster, still without making them harder to trap.
- Trickster unlocks extra flick skill moves; Trickster+ adds ground skill moves too and makes you significantly more agile when strafe dribbling.
In FC 27 EA deliberately narrowed the gap between some PlayStyles and their PlayStyle+ versions (Technical, Precision Header, Finesse Shot, Quick Step), so a gold badge matters a little less than it did in FC 26.
How to get a PlayStyle+ in Clubs
- Level your archetype. The signature upgrades to PlayStyle+ on its own. Community data puts the Magician’s Technical+ at level 20; we haven’t confirmed the level for every archetype.
- Unlock a Specialization. Hit its three targets (one attribute at 92, two at 90) and you can swap your signature slot to the Specialization’s PlayStyle+, for free and back again. You get one or the other, not both. All 39 are in our Specializations guide.
- Tier 4 Signature Amps, later. EA lists PlayStyles+ on Tier 4 Amps, but said none would give PlayStyle+ at launch.
So you can’t stack several gold PlayStyles on one Pro the way FC 26 builds could.
How to unlock PlayStyles: attribute requirements
EA confirms that for a created player, a PlayStyle unlocks by “reaching a specific attribute threshold”. EA doesn’t publish the numbers, so the table below is community data from Pro Clubs HQ, which read the 30 outfield requirements from the retail game. The six goalkeeper rows are FC 26 values that hadn’t been read in FC 27 yet. Every requirement is 75, 80 or 85.
| PlayStyle | Attributes needed | Note |
|---|---|---|

| Acrobatic | Agility 80 · Reactions 80 · Volleys 75 | |

| Far Throw | Vision 75 · Long Pass 75 · GK Kicking 80 | Keepers only |
| Footwork | Agility 80 · Balance 80 · GK Reflexes 75 | Keepers only |
The “out of reach” notes come from archetype caps: the Boss tops out at 75 Curve, and the Finisher, Magician and Target top out at 75 Standing Tackle, so no amount of AP gets them there. One Finesse Shot check from another source: an EA Forums player listed the same Vision 80, Finishing 75 and Curve 80 in FC 26.
Cheap PlayStyles worth grabbing early
Some PlayStyles cost very little because the archetype already starts close to the targets. First Touch (Composure 80, Ball Control 75) is cheap on most attackers and midfielders, Tiki Taka is cheap on the Creator, and Slide Tackle is about the cheapest PlayStyle in the game on the Boss and Recycler. Aerial Fortress is free on the Boss, Progressor and Target.
How many PlayStyle slots do you get?
At level 40, the FC 27 cap, you have one Signature slot plus three regular PlayStyle slots. Community data says the regular slots open at levels 5, 15 and 40.
Sources don’t fully agree. One Pro Clubs HQ table shows slots at levels 1, 10, 20 and 40, but that table is the FC 26 ladder, and the same site’s FC 27 pages say three slots at 5, 15 and 40. That’s what our build guides use. Either way the takeaway is the same: you only get three regular PlayStyles, so meeting a requirement isn’t enough reason to equip one. Pick the three your role uses every match.
FC 27 PlayStyle changes: what EA nerfed
EA’s FC 27 Gameplay Deep Dive says it wanted “to refine the balance between PlayStyles and Attributes”. In practice no PlayStyle got stronger. The changes either cut a boost or help players without the PlayStyle:
| PlayStyle | What EA changed | What it means for your build |
|---|---|---|
| Quick Step | Smaller speed boost when dribbling and accelerating (PlayStyle and PlayStyle+) | Acceleration matters more; still worth it on pace builds |
| Rapid | Slightly smaller dribbling animation speed boost | Still useful in a straight line, less decisive |
| Technical | Smaller gap between Technical and Technical+ | The Magician’s signature upgrade is worth a bit less |
| Finesse Shot | Spin, speed and off-angle accuracy now scale with the shooter’s attributes | Curve and Finishing matter more than the badge |
| Low Driven Shot | Shot speed boost removed; PlayStyle still adds accuracy | Shot Power and Finishing decide how hard it goes |
| Precision Header | Smaller gap between PlayStyle and PlayStyle+ | Heading Accuracy and Jumping matter more |
| Pinged Pass | No longer makes the pass easier for the receiver to trap | Your teammate’s first touch is down to them |
| Tiki Taka | Animation speed boost and receiver trap help removed | Still the go-to for accurate first-time passes |
| Jockey | Smaller sprint boost out of a jockey; faster jockey sprint for players without it | Manual defending works without the badge |
| Intercept | More reach and ball retention for players without it who have high Interceptions | High Interceptions alone gets you closer |
EA also made manual jockeying faster, gave manual standing tackles more range, cut the AI’s interception reach, and added Off-Balance Dribbling, driven by Balance, Agility and Dribbling. For attackers that makes those three attributes worth as much as any ball-control PlayStyle.
Best PlayStyles by position
These match the builds in our archetype guides. The signature is fixed, so the picks below are for your three regular slots.
| Position | Signature (archetype) | Our three regular picks | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| GK | Far Reach (Shot Stopper) / Footwork (Sweeper Keeper) | Footwork or Far Reach, Deflector, 1v1 Close Down | Take the other keeper’s signature, then parry and rush-out help |
| CB | Bruiser (Boss) / Long Ball Pass (Progressor) | Anticipate, Intercept, Aerial Fortress | Win the ball cleanly and own your box |
| Full-back / wing-back | Quick Step (Marauder) | Jockey, Intercept, Whipped Pass or Anticipate | Contain wingers, then deliver crosses |
| CDM | Jockey (Disruptor) / Intercept (Recycler) | Intercept or Anticipate, Bruiser or Press Proven, Relentless or Pinged Pass | Break play up, keep the ball, last 90 minutes |
| CM / CAM | Pinged Pass (Maestro) / Incisive Pass (Creator) | Tiki Taka, First Touch, Incisive Pass or Pinged Pass | Clean first-time passing and a through ball |
| Winger | Technical (Magician) / Trickster (Spark) | First Touch, Finesse Shot, Rapid or Quick Step | Receive, beat your man, finish or cross |
| Striker | Low Driven Shot (Finisher) / Precision Header (Target) | First Touch, Quick Step, Rapid or Finesse Shot | Power Shot instead of Rapid on a Target |
A few notes by line:
- Goalkeepers. Footwork and Far Reach are each other’s signatures, so a keeper takes the other one as a regular slot. The keeper requirements are FC 26 values, so check them in game. Full builds: Shot Stopper and Sweeper Keeper, and our goalkeeper guide for playing the position.
- Centre-backs. Anticipate and Intercept do the work; Jockey is possible on a Boss but needs Agility 75, which is expensive. See the Boss and Progressor builds, or the best defender build to compare them.
- Full-backs. The Marauder’s Quick Step is the signature; Jockey and Intercept make you hard to get past. Best Marauder build.
- Defensive midfield. Relentless reduces fatigue, which matters again since long-term fatigue came back in Clubs. Disruptor, Recycler and the best CDM build.
- Central and attacking midfield. Tiki Taka and First Touch go on almost every passer. Maestro, Creator and the best CAM build.
- Wingers. First Touch and Finesse Shot are the core, then Rapid or Quick Step for pace. Magician, Spark and the best winger build.
- Strikers. With Low Driven Shot’s speed boost gone, First Touch and Quick Step to get the shot away matter most. Finisher, Target and the best striker build.

Are there hidden traits in FC 27 Pro Clubs?
No. Traits were the old system: your Pro collected them in the FIFA games up to FIFA 23, and in FIFA 17 some were “hidden” until you unlocked them. EA replaced traits with PlayStyles in FC 24 (2023), built with Opta data, and its FC 24 PlayStyles deep dive already talks about “Traits in the past”. In FC 27 everything your Pro has is a PlayStyle, and you can see all of them, with their requirements, when you edit your player.
If you’re coming back from FIFA 17 or 18: the closest thing to an old trait is a regular PlayStyle, and the closest thing to a “special” trait is your Signature PlayStyle+.
Tips for choosing PlayStyles
- 01Pick for your role, not your badge collection. Three regular slots go fast. Equip what you use every match: a CB never needs Finesse Shot.
- 02Buy cheap thresholds first. First Touch, Tiki Taka and Slide Tackle cost little on the right archetype and help straight away.
- 03Respect the FC 27 nerfs. Quick Step, Rapid and Low Driven Shot do less than in FC 26, so don’t starve Acceleration, Shot Power or Finishing to reach them.
- 04Keep your signature unless a Specialization fits better. The swap is free, but you lose your signature PlayStyle+ while it’s active.
- 05Check after every respec. Lowering an attribute can drop you under a requirement. Make sure your equipped PlayStyles are still active.
- 06Test offline. EA’s own tip: compare a player with and without the PlayStyle in the Practice Arena before you commit.

FAQ
How do you get PlayStyles in FC 27 Pro Clubs?
Your archetype’s Signature PlayStyle is equipped automatically. Regular PlayStyles unlock when you raise their two or three attributes to the required values (75, 80 or 85), and you equip them in your free slots. Tier 3 Signature Amps can also add a PlayStyle for a few matches.
How do you get PlayStyle+ in Pro Clubs?
Level up your archetype until the signature becomes a PlayStyle+, or unlock a Specialization and swap its PlayStyle+ into the signature slot. You can only have one permanent PlayStyle+ active at a time, and at launch Amps don’t give PlayStyle+.
How many PlayStyles can you have in FC 27 Clubs?
Four at level 40: your Signature PlayStyle plus three regular slots. Community data says the regular slots open at levels 5, 15 and 40.
What is the best PlayStyle in FC 27 Clubs?
There isn’t one for every position. First Touch is the closest to universal for outfield players because it’s cheap and helps every touch. Defenders lean on Intercept and Anticipate, passers on Tiki Taka.
Are traits still in Pro Clubs?
No. Traits were replaced by PlayStyles in FC 24. In FC 27 there are no hidden traits; everything your Pro has shows on the edit screen.
