The Marauder is the Cafu archetype: a full-back with the pace to catch any winger and the engine to bomb forward all game. In EA FC 27 its Signature PlayStyle is Quick Step, it plays LB or RB, and it’s the second most common defender archetype among the best clubs in the game.
This guide covers the best FC 27 Marauder build, the right height and weight, which Specialization to chase, and where your Attribute Points should go. One warning up front: the Marauder’s numbers are the least settled of any archetype right now, so we show you where the sources disagree.
What the Marauder is in FC 27
EA describes the Marauder as a pacey defensive specialist who can shut down wingers or drive forward in attack. In practice it’s the archetype for a modern full-back: it starts with good Acceleration, Sprint Speed, Crossing, Slide Tackle and Stamina (all 75), and weak spots in Finishing (55), Strength and Jumping (both 60).
What you need to know for FC 27:
- One Signature PlayStyle: Quick Step. It upgrades to Quick Step+ as you level the archetype. EA trimmed Quick Step’s speed boost in FC 27, so your actual Acceleration matters more than before.
- Masteries. Levelling the Marauder gives +1 Sliding Tackle and +1 Sprint Speed to every archetype you play from level 10, and another +1 Sprint Speed at level 30.
- Free respecs. Every archetype is unlocked from the start and resets are free, so you can switch between the three builds below whenever you like.
- Max level 40, 962 Attribute Points. You can’t max everything, so the Specialization you pick decides most of your build.
Marauder or Boss at full-back?
The Boss can also play LB/RB, and it’s the better duel-winner. Most guides still pick the Marauder, because a full-back’s first job is keeping up with a quick winger, and Quick Step+ plus a cheap Acceleration upgrade does exactly that. Take the Boss if your club plays a deep block and you mostly defend; take the Marauder if your full-backs are expected to overlap. Our best defender build compares every defender archetype. If you play in a back three as a wing-back who mostly attacks, a Spark is worth a look too. For every position, see best archetypes in FC 27.

The Speedster Full-Back is the one we’d start with, and it’s the Specialization Dexerto’s FC 27 full-back build uses too. It’s the cheapest Marauder Specialization, and Acceleration and Sprint Speed are stats every full-back wants anyway. The Marauder+ Stopper swaps Dribbling for Slide Tackle and Aggression: less help going forward, more help in the tackle. The Athlete is expensive (close to half your AP) but turns the Marauder into a tall, strong full-back who wins more duels and headers.
Each card has an Open in Build Planner link that loads the Specialization targets into our build planner, so you can see what’s left to spend.
Best height and weight for the Marauder in FC 27
The Marauder can be built at 168–188 cm (5’6”–6’2”) and 65–85 kg (143–187 lbs). Taller and heavier adds Strength and Jumping; shorter and lighter adds Agility and Acceleration. The default Marauder is Controlled.
| Recommended | Why | |
|---|---|---|
| Height | 5′9″ – 5′11″ (175–180 cm) | Explosive is possible, and you are still tall enough not to lose every header |
| Weight | 70–75 kg (154–165 lbs) | Keeps Agility well ahead of Strength for Explosive |
| AcceleRATE | Explosive (Lengthy for the Athlete build) | Explosive wins the first steps when a winger turns you |
| Skill Moves | 3 ★ | Enough for a full-back; 5 ★ costs about 65 AP |
| Weak Foot | 4 ★ | Clean passes and crosses on your inside foot |
Explosive or Lengthy? To be Explosive you need to be 182 cm or shorter, with Agility 65+, Agility at least 10 above Strength, and Acceleration 80+. The Marauder starts at Agility 70, Strength 60 and Acceleration 75, so on a light build Acceleration is usually the only thing missing. On the Marauder it’s one of the cheapest stats to raise: about 15 AP from 75 to 80 in community data. The Speedster and Marauder+ builds both get there on the way to their targets, as long as you don’t pump Strength. Check the AcceleRATE label after every change to your body.
Lengthy only makes sense for the tall Athlete build: at 185 cm or taller with Strength 65+ and at least 4 above Agility, its Strength 92 target takes care of the rest. Don’t stop at 183–184 cm, where you can end up Controlled (too tall for Explosive, too short for a safe Lengthy). The full rules are in Lengthy vs Controlled vs Explosive.
The real-player templates people copy most point the same way: Pro Clubs HQ’s most-built Marauders include a 5’9” Cafu (Explosive) and a 5’11” Nuno Mendes (Explosive), with taller 6’0” Davies-style builds coming out Controlled or Lengthy. Some guides go as tall as 6’2” (188 cm), the Marauder’s limit; that’s fine for a defensive full-back, but you give up Explosive to do it.
Attribute priority and AP costs
Your three big decisions are which Specialization, how much defending and how much crossing. These are the costs both data sources agree on:
| Attribute | Cap | AP to max | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| Interceptions | 96 | ~147 | ✔ First (cheap!) |
| Balance | 92 | ~98 | ◑ Cheap filler |
| Def. Aware | 96 | ~276 | ✔ High |
| Stand Tackle | 96 | ~364 | ◑ Expensive, raise to the 80s |
| Agility | 95 | ~329 | ◑ Expensive, keep above Strength |
| Crossing | 99 | ~374 | ◑ Only if you overlap a lot |
| Skill Moves 2★ → 5★ | 5 ★ | ~65 | ✘ Not needed |
| Weak Foot 3★ → 5★ | 5 ★ | ~65 | ◑ 4 ★ is enough |
Spend order for the Speedster Full-Back:
- Speedster targets first: Acceleration 90, Sprint Speed 92, Dribbling 90. You’ll hit Explosive (Acceleration 80) on the way, and the pace helps from your first match.
- Interceptions: one of the cheapest Marauder stats and the one that wins the ball without a risky tackle.
- Defensive Awareness and Stamina: long-term fatigue is partly back in FC 27, and a full-back who overlaps runs further than anyone.
- Standing Tackle into the 80s, then Crossing with what’s left.
Specializations: Speedster, Marauder+ or Athlete?
| Specialization | PlayStyle+ | Unlock | AP (approx.) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Speedster | Rapid+ | Acceleration 90 · Sprint Speed 92 · Dribbling 90 | 255–300 | Overlapping full-backs (default pick) |
| Marauder+ | Slide Tackle+ | Sprint Speed 92 · Slide Tackle 90 · Aggression 90 | 298–353 | Defensive full-backs who tackle a lot |
| Athlete | Bruiser+ | Strength 92 · Def. Aware 90 · Aggression 90 | 452–462 | Tall, strong full-backs |
Speedster is the cheapest by either count, and if you put every point into it you reach it somewhere around level 13–15. Marauder+ shares the Sprint Speed 92 target, so you can go for both: once you have Speedster, Slide Tackle 90 and Aggression 90 cost roughly another 185–195 AP in community data. Athlete is the expensive one: Strength has to go from 60 to 92, and you only reach it around level 23–24 even if you spend nothing else. EA also toned down shoulder challenges and Bruiser+ before launch, so we’d only take it if you want the tall Lengthy body anyway. To compare them with every other archetype’s options, see all Pro Clubs Specializations.
PlayStyles for the Marauder
- Quick Step(+): the signature. A burst of speed when you accelerate, on or off the ball. It was toned down for FC 27, but it’s still the reason to pick this archetype for full-back.
- Jockey: helps you stay with a winger one-on-one. In FC 27 manual jockeying got faster for everyone, but Jockey still helps.
- Intercept: extra reach and a better chance of keeping the ball when you step into a passing lane, which is what FC 27’s defending rewards.
- Whipped Pass for attacking full-backs (fast, accurate crosses), or Anticipate for defensive ones (more standing tackle success, fewer fouls). Bruiser suits the Athlete build.
Where to play the Marauder
Full-back in a back four (LB/RB)
Your home. Stay level with your center-backs and don’t drop deeper than them; EA said that full-backs dropping too early and breaking the line was among the most common FC 27 feedback it received. Defend first, then go when your winger has the ball and the opposite full-back is covering. Overlap on the outside, and pick your crosses carefully: in FC 27 crosses go into space more often and aim and power matter much more.
Wing-back in a back three
Of the 86 Marauders in our top-100 sample, 24 lined up in midfield most often, most likely as wing-backs or wide midfielders in back-three systems. The Speedster build is the right one here, because you’ll cover the whole flank. Look at our best defensive formations for shapes that use wing-backs.

Marauder in the top 100 clubs
We analyzed EA’s public Clubs data for the top 100 clubs and their last 10 league matches (8 October 2026). The Marauder is the fourth most-used archetype and the second most common defender after the Boss:
| Stat | Marauder | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Share of players | 8.1% (86 players) | 4th most used of all archetypes |
| Clubs using one | 53 of 100 | More than half of the best clubs run at least one |
| Median height | 181 cm (middle 50%: 177–186) | Split between Explosive-size and Lengthy-size builds |
| Match rating | 7.24 | Lowest of the outfield archetypes (full-backs rarely score) |
| Goals / assists per game | 0.09 / 0.11 | Assists edge out goals: overlaps and crosses, not shots |
| Tackles per game | 1.11 | Fewer than any midfield archetype |
| Win rate | 79% | In line with other archetypes in these clubs |
The height spread is the interesting part. The biggest groups sit at 185–189 cm and 175–179 cm, with fewer in between, which matches the two ways to build it: short and Explosive, or tall and Lengthy. The median of 181 cm sits just under the 182 cm Explosive limit. See the full breakdown on our Pro Clubs meta page, and compare the Marauder’s starting stats on its archetype page.
Tips for mastering the Marauder
- 01Hold the line. A full-back who drops too early plays every winger onside. Stay level with your center-backs.
- 02Don't overlap every time. Go when your winger has the ball and someone is covering behind you. Two players caught upfield is a goal against.
- 03Step into lanes. Interceptions is cheap on the Marauder and FC 27 rewards manual defenders who read passes.
- 04Get to Acceleration 80 early. It costs very little and unlocks Explosive, which is what catches wingers on the turn.
- 05Level the Marauder to 30. Its Masteries add Sliding Tackle and Sprint Speed to every archetype you play.
- 06Aim your crosses. FC 27 crosses go into space more often, so pick a target area rather than whipping it in blind.
FAQ
What is the best Marauder build in FC 27?
A 5’9”–5’11” (175–180 cm), 70–75 kg Explosive full-back with the Speedster targets (Acceleration 90, Sprint Speed 92, Dribbling 90), then Interceptions, Defensive Awareness and Stamina. Keep Quick Step+ as your signature.
What is the Marauder’s Signature PlayStyle in FC 27?
Quick Step, which upgrades to Quick Step+ as you level. Its Specializations let you swap it for Rapid+ (Speedster), Slide Tackle+ (Marauder+) or Bruiser+ (Athlete).
What is the best height for a Marauder?
5’9”–5’11” (175–180 cm) if you want Explosive, which needs 182 cm or less. If you want a tall, strong full-back, go 6’1”–6’2” (185–188 cm) for Lengthy with the Athlete build. The Marauder’s maximum is 188 cm.
Is the Marauder or the Boss better at full-back?
The Marauder for most clubs: Quick Step+ and cheap Acceleration keep you with fast wingers, it’s the full-back pick in most FC 27 guides, and more than half of the top 100 clubs use one. The Boss is the better choice for a full-back who rarely leaves his own half.
How much does a Marauder Specialization cost?
About 255–300 AP for Speedster, 298–353 for Marauder+ and 452–462 for Athlete, out of 962. The ranges are wide because community sources disagree on the Marauder’s costs, and EA is investigating AP costs.
In FC 27 the Marauder is the full-back pick for most clubs. Build it short enough to be Explosive, hit the Speedster targets first, and spend the rest on cheap defensive stats like Interceptions. If you’d rather be a tall, physical full-back, try the Athlete build: respecs are free.
