The CAM is the player your club looks for when an attack stalls. You need to receive between the lines, turn, and play the pass that breaks the defence. In EA FC 27 the archetype system decides most of that for you, and the right pick is Maestro, with Creator a close second.

This guide covers the best FC 27 CAM build: which archetype to use, height and weight, PlayStyles, Specializations, and how to spend your Attribute Points from level 1 to 55.

CAM height and weight at a glance

ArchetypeOur pickTop 100 clubs: median heightAcceleRATE

Creator5′7″–5′9″ (170–175 cm) · 65 kg171 cm (5′7″), middle half 166–175 cmExplosive is reachable
Magician5′7″–5′9″ (170–175 cm) · 60–68 kg171 cm (5′7″), middle half 164–177 cmExplosive

The medians come from EA’s match data for the top 100 clubs (8 October 2026). EA’s data has no weight, so the weights are our picks from the community build data: 65 kg is the most-built weight for both the Maestro and the Creator. Explosive needs 182 cm or shorter, so every CAM body above qualifies on height.

Maestro, Creator or Magician: which archetype for CAM?

FC 27 has 13 archetypes, and three of them make sense at CAM. Most sources pick Maestro (RealSport101, Destructoid’s tier list). Dexerto’s CAM build uses Creator. Pro Clubs HQ’s build-scoring boards rate a Magician highest at attacking mid, so it’s a real option too.

Why Maestro wins: it has the highest average attribute ceiling of all 13 archetypes (about 94.5) and the highest starting values, so your Pro feels good from the first match. Its signature Pinged Pass becomes Pinged Pass+ at level 20, so you don’t have to spend AP on a Specialization to get a strong PlayStyle+, and Long Ball Pass comes free as a second Signature. Our full Maestro build goes deeper.

Why Creator is close: it has the best Passing ceiling in the game (97.5 category average) and keeps Incisive Pass as its signature, the through ball that unlocks a high line. The catch is that Creator is weaker on the ball than Maestro, so you need a quick-passing club around you. See our full Creator build for the details.

Why not Magician? It can play CAM, and its Invader Specialization gives Incisive Pass+. It still works best wide, though, and we cover it in our Magician build guide.

The Maestro Playmaker is the default. The most-copied Maestro build in the community data hits exactly the Maestro+ targets (Vision 92, Balance 90, Dribbling 90). That costs about 544 AP, 38% of your budget and the Maestro’s most expensive route, so treat it as a mid-game goal, not a starting point. The Creator Number 10 is the cheaper Specialization route: Vision and Long Passing are stats a CAM wants anyway, and Crossing is the only one you’d skip otherwise. The Invader Magician is for players who would rather dribble into the box than pass from the edge of it.

Best CAM Specializations

Each of the three CAM archetypes has three Specializations. Each unlocks at one attribute 92 and two at 90, except Invader, which lost its Attacking Positioning requirement on 22 October. AP is the cost from the archetype’s starting values, from Pro Clubs HQ’s data:

Our picks: a Maestro CAM keeps Pinged Pass+ and unlocks Maestro+ late, for the stats (Vision and Dribbling are what a 10 buys anyway). A Creator takes Creator+ early, because it’s the cheapest Specialization of any midfield archetype and only Crossing is a stat you wouldn’t buy otherwise. A Magician at CAM takes Invader, the only Magician option that turns it into a passer, and on current data the cheapest of its three.

Best height and weight for a CAM

Maestro and Creator share the same body range: 162–188 cm (5’4”–6’2”) and 65–85 kg (143–187 lbs). Both start at 175 cm and 75 kg, which is Controlled.

AcceleRATEControlled (most common)Explosive is reachable

Weak Foot4★ minimum4★ minimum

Why light? Going lighter adds Acceleration, Agility and Sprint Speed and costs Strength, Balance and Jumping. A CAM turns far more often than it wins headers. In the community data, 65 kg is the most-built weight for both archetypes, the lightest they allow.

Explosive or Controlled? For Explosive you need to be 182 cm or shorter, with Agility 65+, Agility at least 10 above Strength, and Acceleration 80+. Acceleration is one of the most expensive stats for both archetypes (80 costs about 74 AP), so about three in four Maestro builds stay Controlled, and that’s fine. The most-built Creator is short and light enough to clear the other rules, which is why more Creators go Explosive. EA narrowed the gap between AcceleRATE types in FC 27, so don’t wreck a build chasing the label. More in our AcceleRATE guide.

PlayStyles for the CAM

At level 55 you have two Signature PlayStyles plus four regular slots (the regular slots open at levels 5, 15, 40 and 55). Your first Signature becomes PlayStyle+ at level 20, your second at level 55, and the second doesn’t use a regular slot. Regular PlayStyles unlock when you hit their attribute requirements:

PlayStyleUnlock (FC 27)Why a CAM wants it
Pinged Pass(+)Maestro signatureFast, driven passes into feet and over short distances
Long Ball Pass(+)Maestro second SignatureMore accurate lofted through passes
Incisive Pass(+)Vision 75 · Long Pass 80 · Curve 80Through balls that beat the line (Creator signature)
Tiki TakaReactions 80 · Ball Control 80 · Short Pass 75Quick one-touch combinations around the box
First TouchComposure 80 · Ball Control 75Turn cleanly when you receive with your back to goal
TechnicalBalance 80 · Ball Control 75 · Dribbling 80Sharper turns and close control
Finesse ShotVision 80 · Finishing 75 · Curve 80Finishing from the edge of the box

For a Maestro, Incisive Pass, Tiki Taka and First Touch are the first three to fill, with Technical in the fourth slot at level 55. If you carry the ball more than you pass it, put Technical in earlier. Creators already have Incisive Pass as their signature, so they free a slot for Technical and Finesse Shot.

How to spend your Attribute Points by level

You get 1,419 Attribute Points by level 55, the current cap. They arrive unevenly: about 224 by level 10, 397 by 20, 674 by 30, 962 by 40, 1,106 by 45, 1,269 by 50 and 1,419 by 55. You can map the whole path out in our build planner first. Here’s a Maestro spending path (Creator works the same way, with Creator+ in place of Maestro+):

  1. Level 1–10: Reactions and Ball Control to 85. Both are cheap for the Maestro, and 80 opens Tiki Taka. Add Curve and Long Passing to 80 for Incisive Pass, and Composure to 80 for First Touch.
  2. Level 10–20: Vision to 92.
  3. Level 20–33: Balance to 90 and Dribbling to 90. Dribbling is one of the Maestro’s most expensive stats, which is why Maestro+ comes late. It unlocks at about level 33 on this path.
  4. Level 33–47: Short Passing, Long Passing, Composure, Reactions and Ball Control to 90. EA made Short Passing a top-tier cost for the Maestro on 22 October, so it waits until now.
  5. Level 47–55: That plan comes to about 1,153 AP, so you have about 266 AP left for Agility, Acceleration, skill moves and weak foot.

Two tricks help here. Resets are free in FC 27, and you can move single attributes without resetting everything, so you can follow the PlayStyle thresholds as you go. Masteries also help: levelling a Maestro to 10 gives +1 Reactions and +1 Ball Control to every archetype you play, level 30 adds another +1 Ball Control, and a third Mastery point arrives at level 55. Levelling a Creator gives Vision and Free Kick Accuracy.

CAM in the top 100 clubs

We pulled the last 10 league matches of the top 100 clubs on EA’s leaderboard: 967 matches and 1,059 players who played at least 3 of them (8 October 2026). EA only records a broad position group, so CAMs are counted together with every other midfielder, and matching EA’s archetype numbers to names is our own inference. Our Pro Clubs meta page explains how.

Three different CAMs show up. The Maestro is the most common midfielder by far and has the best match rating of the three, but it plays like a complete midfielder: few assists, lots of tackles. The Creator is the chance machine, with more assists per match than any other archetype, strikers included, at the cost of the lowest pass accuracy of the three (our reading: it tries the riskier ball). The Magician scores far more than either, but more than half of the Magicians in this sample lined up as forwards, so its numbers mostly come from the wing. If your club needs assists from the 10, the data points to the Creator; if it needs a midfielder who also defends, the Maestro.

Playing CAM in FC 27: what still works

Some things from our old FC 24 guide still hold: the CAM is the heart of the team, and passing, vision and close control matter more than raw pace. What’s changed is that you no longer pick “winger stats at CAM”. In FC 27 the archetype does that job.

  1. 01
Show for the ball between the lines. Drift into the gap between their midfield and defence, and check your shoulder before you receive. First Touch makes the turn.
  2. 02
Pass first, shoot second. AXP follows your Role Rating, which judges you on what your position should do. For a CAM that means completed passes and chances created, not hopeful shots.
  3. 03
Use Pinged Pass+ for tempo. Driven passes into your striker’s feet move the ball faster than the defence can shift.
  4. 04
Save Incisive Pass for runners. Play the through ball as your striker or winger starts the run, not after they’re already offside.
  5. 05
Talk to your striker. A CAM is only as good as the runs ahead of him. Pair with a pacy Finisher.
  6. 06
Respec freely. Try 5′9″ against 5′11″, and Controlled against Explosive, before you settle. It costs nothing in FC 27.

CM and CDM: the rest of the midfield

Our old guide also covered CM and CDM. In FC 27, Maestro is the standard CM pick too, with the same build and a bit more Stamina and Interceptions (Interceptions 80 costs about 42 AP; past that it gets expensive). For CDM, take a Disruptor (ball winner) or Recycler (holding passer); our best CDM build compares them. See best archetypes for every position for the full list.

FAQ

What is the best archetype for CAM in FC 27?

Maestro. It has the highest average attribute ceiling, the best starting values, and a signature (Pinged Pass+) that needs no Specialization. Creator is the alternative if you want the highest Passing ceiling and Incisive Pass+ as your signature.

What height should a CAM be in FC 27 Clubs?

Around 5’9” (175 cm) at 65–72 kg (143–160 lbs). Go down to 5’7” (170 cm) if you want a Creator to reach Explosive. Explosive is only possible at 182 cm (5’11”) or shorter, and every extra inch costs agility.

Should I unlock Maestro+ on my CAM?

Yes, but not first. Maestro+ needs Vision 92, Balance 90 and Dribbling 90, which costs about 544 AP on its own and about 1,116 AP (level 46) with Short Passing, Ball Control, Reactions, Composure and Long Passing at 90. If you equip Technical+, give up Long Ball Pass and keep Pinged Pass+.

Can a Magician play CAM?

Yes. Take the Invader Specialization (Incisive Pass+) and a light, Explosive body. It’s best as a dribbling 10 or second striker. For a passing CAM, Maestro or Creator is better.

Final verdict

The best CAM build in FC 27 is a 5’9” Maestro that keeps Pinged Pass+ and stacks Reactions, Ball Control, Vision and, later, Short Passing. Take a Creator if your club lives on through balls, and a Magician if you’d rather beat players than pass around them.
