Best Sweeper Keeper Build in EA FC 27 Pro Clubs

The best FC 27 Pro Clubs Sweeper Keeper build: max GK height, AP priorities and costs, Specializations (Sweeper Keeper+, Launcher, Extra) and PlayStyles.

EA FC 27Updated 8 Oct 20267 min read

The Sweeper Keeper is the Van der Sar archetype: a goalkeeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and happy behind a high defensive line. In EA FC 27 its Signature PlayStyle is Footwork, and it’s the only way to build a 6’7” keeper in Pro Clubs.

It’s the minority choice (most Clubs keepers play the Shot Stopper), but it has two real advantages: the cheapest Specializations of any goalkeeper, and extra height. This guide covers the build, the body, where your Attribute Points should go and when it’s the better pick.

What the Sweeper Keeper is in FC 27

EA calls it a modern-day goalkeeper who is comfortable on the ball and excels behind a high defensive line. It starts more athletic than the Shot Stopper and much better at distribution, but weaker at holding on to shots.

  • Signature PlayStyle: Footwork, which upgrades to Footwork+ as you level. Despite the name, it isn’t a passing PlayStyle: EA describes it as a keeper who uses their feet to make difficult saves.
  • Masteries: levelling the Sweeper Keeper adds +1 GK Handling and +1 GK Diving to every archetype you play from level 10, and another +1 GK Diving at level 30. That makes it worth levelling even if you main the Shot Stopper.
  • Max level 40, 962 Attribute Points, all archetypes unlocked, free resets.

Pick the Sweeper Keeper if your club plays a high line, you want to start attacks with long throws and kicks, or you simply want the extra inch. Pick the Shot Stopper if your team defends deeper and you want the best possible save stats, especially GK Handling, which is the Sweeper Keeper’s weak spot. Both are free to switch between, so try both.

The Sweeper Keeper+ Distributor is the build Dexerto recommends for FC 27 (6’7”, Footwork+, Far Reach, Deflector and Far Throw), and its targets are cheap on this archetype: GK Kicking and Vision are among the cheapest stats it has, and GK Diving 92 is a save stat you want anyway. The Launcher is the cheapest goalkeeper Specialization in the game and puts GK Reflexes at 90 on the way, so it leaves the most AP for the expensive stats.

Most Sweeper Keepers keep Footwork+ in the signature slot and treat the Specialization as a stat line. Swap to Far Throw+ or Long Ball Pass+ only if your club really plays out through you.

Best height and weight for the Sweeper Keeper

The Sweeper Keeper can be built at 6’0”–6’7” (Pro Clubs HQ lists 184–200 cm) and 80–100 kg (176–220 lbs). EA hasn’t said exactly what height does for keepers, but a taller keeper covers more of the goal, and 6’7” (200 cm) is the tallest Virtual Pro keeper you can make.

The most-copied Sweeper Keepers on Pro Clubs HQ are real-player templates a little shorter than that: Manuel Neuer (6’4”, 203 lbs) and Mike Maignan (6’3”, 196 lbs). If you want the look, fine, but we’d take the height. Among the top 100 clubs, 5 of 41 human keepers were 200 cm, a height only the Sweeper Keeper can reach. For the real-world giants, see the tallest goalkeepers in FC 27.

Attribute priority and AP costs

The Sweeper Keeper’s costs are lopsided: distribution is cheap, but two of the four core goalkeeping stats are expensive.

AttributeStart → capAP to maxPriority
GK Diving75 → 99~374✔ First (92 for Sweeper Keeper+)
GK Reflexes75 → 99~374✔ First
GK Positioning75 → 99~467✔ High, but expensive
GK Handling65 → 99~524◑ Weak spot, very expensive
GK Kicking75 → 99~226✔ Cheap
Vision75 → 99~226✔ Cheap (90 for Sweeper Keeper+)
Long Pass75 → 96~136✔ Cheap
Reactions75 → 96~189◑ After the GK stats
Acceleration / Agility75 → 92 / 65 → 90~217 / ~234◑ Only if you rush out a lot

Spend order for the Sweeper Keeper+ Distributor:

  1. Sweeper Keeper+ targets: GK Diving 92, Vision 90, GK Kicking 90 (about 289 AP, around level 15 if you spend everything on it).
  2. GK Reflexes, then GK Positioning: the saves come first, even on a ball-playing keeper.
  3. GK Handling with what’s left. It’s one of the most expensive stats on the archetype, so don’t expect to max it. The Sweeper Keeper’s own Handling Mastery helps a little.
  4. Long Pass is cheap if you want accurate goal kicks on top.

Specializations: Sweeper Keeper+, Launcher or Extra?

Each Specialization unlocks when you reach one attribute at 92 and two at 90, and lets you swap Footwork+ for its PlayStyle+ (and back) for free.

SpecializationPlayStyle+UnlockAPBest for

ExtraPress Proven+GK Positioning 92 · Short Pass 90 · Composure 90~617Hard to justify

Launcher and Sweeper Keeper+ cost almost the same, and both are cheaper than any Shot Stopper Specialization. We prefer Sweeper Keeper+ because GK Diving 92 helps every save, while Launcher’s GK Kicking 92 only helps your distribution. Extra costs about 617 AP (Short Pass starts at 50 and GK Positioning is expensive), which is close to two-thirds of your budget, and you’d only reach it around level 30. To compare them with every other archetype’s options, see all Pro Clubs Specializations.

PlayStyles for the Sweeper Keeper

You get one signature PlayStyle (Footwork+, or a Specialization’s PlayStyle+) and three regular ones. EA’s own descriptions:

  • Footwork(+): the signature. Uses the feet to make difficult saves.
  • Far Reach: the Shot Stopper’s signature, available to you as a regular slot. Covers the net and stretches for difficult shots.
  • Deflector: better control over where you parry the ball.
  • Far Throw: starts counter-attacks with long throws. A good fit for a keeper whose job includes distribution.
  • 1v1 Close Down: more aggressive coming out for balls over the top and long through balls, which is exactly what a keeper behind a high line faces.

How to play the Sweeper Keeper

The point of this archetype is the space behind your defense. A few habits make it work:

  • Agree on the line with your center-backs. A high line only works if the keeper is ready to come out. Tell them when you’re coming. The basics of rushing out (hold Triangle/Y) are in our goalkeeper guide.
  • Decide early on through balls. If you can get there first, go; if it’s 50/50, stay and set yourself.
  • Throw quickly, kick long when it’s on. A fast throw to a full-back or a long ball to a quick striker can turn a save into an attack.
  • Don’t get fancy at the back. Short Pass starts at 50 on this archetype; pass simply under pressure.

For your defenders’ side of it, see how to defend in Pro Clubs and our best defensive formations.

Goalkeepers in the top 100 clubs

We analyzed EA’s public Clubs data for the top 100 clubs and their last 10 league matches (8 October 2026). EA’s match data can’t reliably tell the two goalkeeper archetypes apart, so these numbers cover both keepers together:

Clubs with a human keeper35 of 100Most top clubs play with the AI in goal
Players41About 4% of all players in the sample
Median height197 cm (middle 50%: 192–197)Almost everyone goes tall
Keepers at 200 cm5 of 41Only possible as a Sweeper Keeper

Pass accuracy81%Similar to outfield players

The Sweeper Keeper is a minority pick even at the top, but it’s there. Keepers’ match ratings (6.07 on average) are also far below outfield players’, so don’t judge your game by that number. More on our Pro Clubs meta page, and the Sweeper Keeper’s full starting stats are on its archetype page.

  1. 01
Go to 6′7″. Extra height is the clearest reason to pick the Sweeper Keeper over the Shot Stopper.
  2. 02
Saves before passes. Put GK Reflexes and GK Diving ahead of anything distribution-related.
  3. 03
Unlock Sweeper Keeper+ early. At about 289 AP it is one of the cheapest Specializations in Clubs, and it gives you GK Diving 92.
  4. 04
Level the Shot Stopper too. Its Masteries add GK Positioning and GK Reflexes to every archetype, covering your expensive Positioning.
  5. 05
Talk to your back line. A high line needs a keeper who calls when he is coming.

FAQ

What is the best Sweeper Keeper build in FC 27?

6’6”–6’7” (197–200 cm), 80–92 kg, Sweeper Keeper+ targets first (GK Diving 92, Vision 90, GK Kicking 90), then GK Reflexes, GK Positioning and GK Handling. Footwork+ as signature with Far Reach, Deflector and Far Throw.

How tall can a Sweeper Keeper be in FC 27?

6’7” (200 cm), the tallest goalkeeper you can build in Pro Clubs. The Shot Stopper tops out at 6’6” (197 cm).

What is the Sweeper Keeper’s Signature PlayStyle?

Footwork, which upgrades to Footwork+ as you level. It helps you make saves with your feet. Its Specializations offer Far Throw+ (Sweeper Keeper+), Long Ball Pass+ (Launcher) or Press Proven+ (Extra) instead.

Is the Sweeper Keeper good in FC 27?

Yes, if your team plays a high line or you want to be involved in build-up. Its Specializations are the cheapest for any keeper, but it starts with weaker GK Handling, which is also expensive to raise. Most Clubs keepers still pick the Shot Stopper.

Final verdict

The Sweeper Keeper is the tall, ball-playing alternative to the Shot Stopper. Build it at 6’7”, unlock the cheap Sweeper Keeper+ for GK Diving 92, and keep your saves first. If your club defends deep, the Shot Stopper is still the safer choice, and switching is free.
